I am mother of two wonderful teenagers, a business woman and environmental scientist and recently I have been awarded the status of Chartered Environmentalist.
Until the May 2010 local election I was not a politician.
In 2009 David Cameron called for different people to get involved in politics and so in May 2010 I was elected as a local councillor for North Richmond. This is because I am passionate about changing the way that people are empowered and involved in decisions that matter in our community, and to our lives.
Making time to be an effective councillor is part of my personal commitment to social responsibility and changing things for good.
My role as a councillor:
I was elected as a councillor on 5 May 2010 to serve the North Richmond Ward in the London Borough of Richmond.
It’s an honour to be elected to serve and stand up for all people living in North Richmond. I will try to repay your trust by working as hard as I can – to change things for better in North Richmond. I am not someone who sits around waiting for someone else to make things happen. I will and do push council officers and Transport for London to remind them they are here to serve you too.
Richmond Borough’s Champion of Cycling:
Since the election I was nominated as Richmond Borough’s Champion of Cycling – I am keen to get more people cycling, more often safely and for fun.
If you are a keen local cyclist why not follow me on Twitter @KatHarborne or you are welcome to join the LBRuT Cycle Liaison Group which I am chairman.
Committees I sit on:
I sit on the Environment and Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee and also on Planning Committee, Vacancy Control Panel and was part of the Richmond Drugs Misuse Task Group.
Since 1993 I have lived in Richmond and rowing and cycling are key parts of my effort to stay fit.
